Artist Statement
During my career I have worked with different media: drawing and painting, theatre stage and costume design, puppet making, installations and sculpture. Looking back at my development as an artist, I perceive that I have always been seeking to express the inner world of a human being in his or her external guise. For me people resemble coral reefs: the more they live, the more layers of sediment settle upon them. The life story of a person is always printed in his or her appearance (though it does not always take such an extreme form as in "The Picture of Dorian Gray"). My works: drawing, puppets and sculptures usually depict characters from stories, either from literature or from my imagination. But rather than creating an illustration of the narrative, I focus more on understanding and expressing psychological traits of my character. My task is to display the imprint which life has stamped on his or her personality. In my art works I endeavour to appeal to the bright side of the human soul, hoping to awaken good feelings. |
